Life Drawing - Study of Emotions

Our life drawing session on the 7th consisted of defining emotions through facial features such as muscle, eyes and nose. Below are some quick sketches showing different emotions and the changes to features.

The main thing I found is how subtle changes to the muscles and features make a huge difference in what emotion is conveyed. For example both Happy and Sad have the muscle stretching from the mouth to the nostril however the thing that defines them both is how the eyebrows and mouth are placed.

As my character is a robot, it does not have facial muscles, and the way he is designed he does have a nose or mouth, just eyes. This exercise will prove useful in providing emotions through his eyes by lowering eyebrows and eyelids.
